IUI Procedure Success

There are lots of different quoted IUI procedure success rates, but the general consensus is that the range is somewhere between 15% - 20% for each cycle.

This is a slightly lower range than the average IVF success rates figure. However, it has been recorded that between 60% to 70% of couples will have achieved pregnancy after 6 cycles.

IUI Procedure With Clomid

If you want to go one step further in the IUI procedure you can take clomid (a form of clomifene), which is an oral general fertility medicine.

Clomid boosts your reproductive system by stimulating your pituitary function, thus encouraging the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).

You can even take clomid without going through the IUI procedure as most fertility specialists will prescribe clomid as an initial measure for most fertility treatments.

IUI Procedure With Injectables

The most advanced stage of the IUI procedure is to take what is commonly referred to as injectables.

What you're really getting is a direct dose of FSH.

These injections are expensive and painful and are the same injections you'll be taking for two weeks straight if you decide to do IVF (in vitro fertilization).

The aim is the same as taking the clomid, to increase your FSH levels to help you produce more eggs for fertilization. Injectables are just faster and more direct than using clomid.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a cheap alternative to the more complicated and expensive infertility treatments such as IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

Most couples who have been trying to get pregnant use it as a first stop because of the low cost.

The procedure involves using sperm from your partner, or a donor, and injecting it directly into your uterus using a small catheter. You might be saying, what's the difference between the IUI procedure and regular intercourse? Well, the IUI procedure gives you a slightly better chance of conception because you have the assurance that the sperm actually make it into the womb and are pre-screened so they are known to be active and fertile.

One of the well known concepts for successful conception (both, in the lab and naturally), is to do it as close to your ovulation time as possible. During the IUI procedure most doctors will advise you to monitor your ovulation with either follicular ultrasounds, ovulation kits or by monitoring your basal body temperature. The ultrasounds are the most accurate.

IUI Procedure Cost

Compared to the ridiculously high IVF cost, the IUI procedure cost is miniscule. Some doctors charge as little as $300 for this procedure, including the sperm processing as well as the actual IUI procedure itself. The cost for the actual IUI procedure should never be over $1000 all up. However, if you go for the more advanced option which includes fertility drugs, the price starts to go up steeply.
